Got a gadget geek on your Christmas list? I suggest hurrying on down to CompUSA. All 103 stores will be closing by the end of the year, and everything is on sale. Here is a link to find a store near you. I would call ahead to make sure you are not going to a store that is already closed. After checking out this rumored liquidation schedule I decided to hold out until prices get a little lower.
The privately held CompUSA, controlled by Mexican financier Carlos Slim Helu's Grupo Carso SA, has suffered substantial losses with falling computer prices over the past 10 years. The company tried to move their focus on gadget geeks (like myself) by offering more MP3 players and the like, but they never captured my attention. During the third quarter, the company reported losses of 494.8 million Mexican pesos (US$45.7 million) in revenue of 4.6 billion pesos.
If you don't have a CompUSA near you, you might want to watch their website. This week they have free shipping, and here is a link to their clearance items. (Not too much listed yet.) They do have more listed under "Unadvertised Specials."
So go shopping folks! It is a dream come true for gadget geeks!
