January 1, 2008 marks the centennial of the New York Time Square's ball drop, and this time the ball will turn "green." This year, the motif is "Let There Be Light," but the light is coming from 9,576 energy-efficient bulbs. The ball will use about the same amount of electricity as 10 toasters. Yes, you guessed it. The lights from the 2007 Times Square Ball had about 600 incandescent and halogen bulbs. The new led lights can create more than 16 million colors for a kaleidoscope of hues against the 672 Waterford Crystal triangles.
