
Everybody's talking about Cyber Monday, but is it just a lot of hype? How much more traffic do online retailers get on the first Monday after Thanksgiving? Is it really the busiest online shopping day of the year? Where did the term come from?
Cyber Monday is actually only the 12th busiest shopping day of the year. The busiest online shopping days are actually about three days before Thanksgiving and between December 5th and December 15th. (December 12th is actually the biggest day.) However; online shopkeepers are already reporting higher than expected traffic and sales for the weekend. 
The term "Cyber Monday" was coined by Shop.org. The term was first used in 2005 to mark the day that online shopping began to pick up. The theory is that shoppers do holiday shopping on Thanksgiving weekend, and whatever they were unable to find at the stores, they look for online.
I have to tell you a little secret. I don't go shopping on Thanksgiving weekend. I don't believe in paying the outrageous prices at local retail stores. I can find most of what I need, in the "color" I want for less by searching online for the lowest prices.
