1 in 5 Companies Settle Lawsuits to Avoid Email Search Costs

A survey of professionals directly involved in legal discovery shows that one in five businesses fold when faced with a lawsuit rather than pay the cost of searching through thousands of emails.  Help Desk managers are often faced with following up on email research - especially when it involves "surprise" terminations.

So why do companies fail when it comes to researching email involved in lawsuits?  Frankly, who has the time to research it?  47% of survey respondents do not agree that their legal team can effectively review relevant email in the 99-day window before the meet and confer session. Of those 51 percent say they have implemented, or are planning to implement technology that allows them to easily search and review email.  36.7 percent of businesses are already enforcing a formal retention policy for email, while another 40 percent are currently in the planning stage to enforce a formal policy.fortiva%20email%20archive.gif

The survey was conducted by iTracks for Fortiva.  Fortiva is a leading on-demand email archiving provider.  I found their website to be quite informative about e-discovery issues.  You can also sign up for a live one-on-one demo, do some light research on legal discovery, or subscribe to their blog to stay posted on related topics.
