
October 28th was the first day of beta testing for Hulu. After hearing all the hype about Hulu bringing free and commercial-free television to the net, the IT junkie inside me had to go get a fix. I immediately tried to signup, but they said they are not ready for me yet. :-( Apparently they will contact me when they can are ready. (Ouch! That was like running into a virtual brick wall!) Anybody out there have access to the Hulu private beta yet?
Why did they name it Hulu? For simplicity sake they say. I looked it up though. Hulu is Hawaiian for “feather/plumage,” also means “choice and precious” and, Hulu on a symbolic level, stands for an esteemed kupuna or elder. I'm sure it has other meanings in other languages as any phonetically catchy word would.
The site will feature many of the latest shows like The Office, Prison Break, The Simpsons, Heroes, as well as classic shows such as Arrested Development, Miami Vice, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The A-Team. Hulu is also going into beta with an initial selection of feature films that includes Conan the Barbarian, Sideways, and The Blues Brothers. Hulu was nice enough to give us a little teaser - a full episode of The Office:
