Just a couple of weeks ago the results of a study were released that said ITIL popularity was on the decline. Now a software company called Axios Systems that provides international IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions says ITIL is about to take off. There seem to be conflicting facts here, and the company sponsoring the most recent research does seem to have their own interests at heart. (Sorry Axios, I tell it like I see it.)
The report entitled, "IT Transforms Itself into a Service", provides a number of findings that stress the importance of adopting ITIL to ensure that IT processes are closely integrated with the business. The results show that 33 percent of North American organizations are using the ITIL framework and 26 per cent are planning to implement ITIL within the next year. Meanwhile, 24 percent have no plans to deploy the framework.
Had I learned about this company's software before I learned about this study, I might have focused on the software, features, and the fact that they seem to use ITIL strategies to support their own customers. Instead, I am focused why the company paid a research company to produce material that helps to sell their products.
