Customer Service Skills: 1 Simple Trick to Improve Your Skills
A commercial voice-over specialist once gave me his secret to making his voice sound 100% better over the phone.  My choir conductor gave me similar advice for improving my singing voice.  My grand mother told me mine was a winner.  I use this advice when I post front end messages and record the voice mail messages for my help desk call center as well.  What is it?  Well a smile of course!  

Wear a smile in your voice!

Even when you are on the phone, people can hear the difference if you are smiling.  I found very a very worthwhile read here: The Voice of Customer Service. The article includes exercises you can try to improve the way you sound to the customer on the phone.  Tips here include putting a mirror on your desk, or leaving yourself a voicemail message to see how you sound.  Inflection and tone is also very important.  Have you ever called your dog a “sticky smelly puppy” in an affectionate voice and had them come to you with that wagily tail?  Smiling does wonders for your tone and inflection!

smile%20emoticonAnd smiling pays off in more than one way.  Did you know that 72% of people believe that those who smile alot are confindent and successful?  Boss are 12% more likely to promote people who smile alot.  But the reasons for smiling go even deeper because happiness is the cause of success.  Just in case you need more reasons to smile, check out this refreshng ABC News article Smile for Success.
