Even when you are on the phone, people can hear the difference if you are smiling. I found very a very worthwhile read here: The Voice of Customer Service. The article includes exercises you can try to improve the way you sound to the customer on the phone. Tips here include putting a mirror on your desk, or leaving yourself a voicemail message to see how you sound. Inflection and tone is also very important. And smiling pays off in more than one way. Did you know that 72% of people believe that those who smile alot are confindent and successful? Boss are 12% more likely to promote people who smile alot. But the reasons for smiling go even deeper because happiness is the cause of success. Just in case you need more reasons to smile, check out this refreshng ABC News article Smile for Success.
