Google Phone vs IPhone - Free vs NOT Free

There is no doubt that Google (NYSE - GOOG)is fixated on the mobile phone business.  Recent news about their interest in the 700Mhz wireless spectrum, and reports about the Google Phone are indications that their pioneering spirit is taking off in a new direction. Google envisions a phone free of monthly subscription charges - provided entirely by advertisers.  Schweeet!  Why didn’t I think of that?  Using the internet, listening to music, and watching videos will be simpler for users as well.

What's not to love about the idea of a free internet cell phone?
Can you believe my own sister refuses to own a cell phone or pay for internet service?  Maybe now she will get a phone and internet access to boot!  Welcome to the 21st century little sis!  What makes this product even better is the competition it will spark!  Sure, some people will still covet their Blackberries and IPhones - unwilling to part with their high monthly service charges and miscelaneous charges.

For the IT business, this means one more product line to support.  There are plenty of cell phone help desks around.  Job security!  Gotta love it.  Google is already starting their hiring process:  http://www.unstrung.com/document .asp?doc_id=122255
